We caught up with the team at Mazeno to find out more about their ethos and what inspired the brand.
Q: Please tell us a bit more about yourselves and the Mazeno brand. Where does the name Mazeno come from?
“Mazeno Clothing was launched in late 2015, by a group of friends who aimed to inspire and motivate as many people as possible to achieve their own goals.
The name Mazeno comes from the inspirational story and achievement of Sandy Allan and Rick Allen; who after exhaustion, hunger and frostbite, conquered the “last great problem of the Himalayas”.
The Mazeno Ridge was the last unclimbed ridge in the world, covering 14 peaks over 8,000 meters and requiring 13km of perilous and technical climbing, as well as massive commitment and endurance due to the committing proposition of the ridge. Many had tried and failed previously but with true spirit and determination, Sandy and Rick completed the ordeal in 2012.
This story had a huge effect on the team at Mazeno, and we formed the business to create inspirational clothing covering all forms of outdoors adventuring including biking, climbing, mountaineering, skiing and surfing.”
Q: What are your brand’s objectives and who are your customers?
“We are aiming to inspire others to explore the outdoors and achieve their own Mazeno ridge stories.
Whether you’re a first timer or a seasoned pro, we want to help people take that step into the outdoors, using whichever activity or passion they have to create a moment of adventure – no matter what platform they use to find your adventure, whether it’s hiking, mountaineering, biking, surfing or climbing. Our logo and tagline represent this.”
Q: Please tell us more about your tagline?
“Our tagline is, ‘Because it’s there’ – famous words spoken by George Mallory, the intrepid explorer who when asked why he wanted to climb Mount Everest replied with that phrase. We like that kind of attitude and no fuss reasoning for trying something new!”
Q: We love your logo and think it ties in well with our own. How did it come about?
“Our logo, created by one of our team in-house, explains our thought process from initial
discussions about what we wanted to represent to what you see on our site and our products today.
The Mazeno Ridge has 8 sub peaks that lie across the back of the ridge and these have been described as ‘rising and falling like a camel’s humps’.
Combine this with the clear silhouette against the sky, and our love for adrenaline boosting activities and you get the Mazeno logo; the basis of our company ethos.”
