I grew up in a small village in North Wales. Brymbo.
Famed for its steel works which closed in the nineties, an industry that, along with mining, sustained much of the workforce in the area.
So it’s always great to hear about anything good that is taking place in and around the village.
Brymbo MX track is exactly that.
I grew up visiting “The Scrambles” as we called it then, watching riders from all over come to race on the local farm track a few times a year. It got myself and a few mates into riding old motorbikes from the age of 10. We’d all get together and strip down engines on our battered former road bikes and ride them in the local quarries and the unused brickworks, Cae Llo. It was a different time and we did things you’d never allow your kids to do today, but the love of bikes and motocross was instilled in us for life.
Now in my late 40’s I haven’t ridden a bike in years but the nostalgia still kicks in when I hear a MX bike fire up.
And that is why I am so pleased to see Brymbo MX up and running again.
The track is located near Pen Rhos Farm on the outskirts of Brymbo. In fact it’s nestled between Brymbo and Minera /Coedpoeth in an area that’s outstanding beauty makes it worth a visit all year round, with numerous fantastic walks in the area such as Nant y Ffrith, Brymbo Pool and Minera Mountain / Worlds End.
Brymbo MX now have an agreement with Wrexham Council to run 14 events a year at the track which is kept in great shape. It caters for all abilities and age groups so if you’ve ever wanted to get into the sport, it could be a great place to start without the pressures of having to worry about a more experienced rider hurrying you along.
The days are broken into time-slots for the varying abilities, from kids on little PW50’s through to novice adults and again through to experienced skilled riders.
The track is well maintained between events and watered with a bowser when required in summer.
You can book your place for their events via their facebook page which can be found here
Bookings are £30 per rider which is great value for money.
There are toilets on site and refreshments available from a burger van, so you can pretty much make it your spot for the day!
